The custom of placing the nation's Christmas tree on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol dates back to 1964. Since 1970, the "people's tree" has come from a National Forest. Wyoming, and the Bridger-Teton National Forest have been asked to provide the tree in 2010.
As soon as word began to spread about this exciting opportunity, several organizations, businesses and individuals became involved. We have the opportunity to showcase all that is special about Wyoming ~ the beauty of her natural resources, the products & services of her businesses, the richness of her cultures, and the talents & generosity of her people.
To make the most of this opportunity for Wyoming the project needs the support and enthusiasm of many more Wyomingites.
While our primary task is to provide a magnificent tree for the Capitol, this project will also:
- Promote civic involvement.
- Showcase Wyoming and its businesses.
- Celebrate the richness of our natural resources and the talents & generosity of all Wyomingites.
This project includes providing:
- A 65 foot tall tree for the West Lawn of the Capitol
- 75 smaller trees, for congressional offices and agency & organizations' headquarters throughout D.C.
- 5000+ handmade ornaments
- Community events, Receptions & Soirees, here in Wyoming and in D.C.
- And, a wealth of partnership & volunteer opportunities.
